Reconstruction the period of time when the United States made policies to rebuild the South
Ku Klux Klan formed in 1866 and began terrorizing African Americans and whites who supported their rights
Ten-Percent Plan when 10 percent of a southern state's voters had taken oath, they could organize a new state government, which had to ban slavery
Johnson's Plan he was determined to keep control of Reconstruction; his plan was similar to Lincoln's but he added wealthy southern men to those who had to apply for a presidental pardon; it also let white southerners form a state government on their own
Black Codes these gave freedmen certain rights, but their intent was to keep the former slaves in a dependent position and give planters a supply of cheap labor; some states had contracts
