Leeward |
Or the rainshadow, refers to the side of a mountain that is sheltered from the wind. It is the drier side of a mountain. |

A raised section of land, smaller than a mountain, and has a rounded summit. |

A large area of land, either level or gently rolling, usually at low elevation. |

Plateau |
A large, flat area of land that is higher than the surrounding land and usually with steep sides. |

Peninsula |
A peice of land tht is surrounded by water on 3 sides. Florida and Italy are both examples of this. |

Topography |
Refers to the lay of the land. This is the shape of the surface features of a geographic area. |

Earth's Crust |
The outer layer of the Earth. It is a relatively thin layer of rock that coats the earth. |

Mantle |
The layer of the earth between the crust and the core. |

Core |
That portion of the interior part of the earth that lies beneath the mantle and goes all of the way to the center (inner core and outer core) |

Volcano |
A mountain or hill built up by the eruption of molten rock and ash from the earth's interior. |
