(1492-1493) He never landed on North America, but he landed on South America. he also discovered the Bahamas and named one island San Salvador. He created a colony called Hispanola. Columbus (S)
(May 1497-August 1498) He made maps of the coast of North America after he discovered Newfoundland, he thought he found Japan. Cabot (E)
(1499-1501) He was the first to land and explore of South America. He was also the 1st to make maps of South America. Vespucci (S,P)
(1510-1514) He led an expedition across the Ithmus of Panama to find a new route to Asia, as a result he discovered a new ocean, which was soon to be named the Pacific Ocean. De Balboa (S)
(1519-1521) He circumnavigated the world. He died during a harsh war and the Strait of Magellan was named after him. His last ship called the Victoria successfully returned to Europe. Magellan (S)
(1487-1488) He traveled to the bottom tip of Africa and discovered a cape which he named the Cape of Storms, but Prince Henry named it the Cape of Good Hope instead. Dias (P)
(1497-1499) He went around the Cape of Good Hope to the East Indies and back to Portugal. De Gama (P)
