Deficiency Correction Approach
Concept states that a nutrient should be applied only if there is a reasonable expectation of a crop response.
The maintenance approach sets a soil test level goal and recommends fertilizer to build the soil to the specific nutrient level that has been determined to be ideal.
Under this approach, fertilizer recommendations are based on how much nutrient a specific crop is likely to remove from the soil and how much nutrient will be needed to replace it.
Common Nitrogen Fertilizers
Anhydrous ammonia 82 percent, urea 46 percent nitrogen, urea ammonia, Ammonium Sulfate
