Effects of European Colonialism in Africa

Sub-sahara Africa
Limited Manufacturing
-European nations took the rich resources from Africa and sent them back home to be manufactured.

-No manufacturing or technology was set up or left behind once the Europeans left
Civil War and Ethnic Violence
-Europeans established country borders that best benefit their interests.

-They did not consider the fact that they were splitting up tribes or forcing rival tribes to be a part of the same country.

-Europeans would favor one group or tribe causing resentment from other groups/tribes

-When the Europeans left, civil wars broke out across the continent.
-A lack of diversification in their economy causes a dependence on agriculture, particularly subsistence farming

-Due to war, famine and drought, the people of Africa are extremely poor.
