A movement of the Earth's crust caused by the release of seismic energy
Transverse wave (S - wave)
Where the land is shaken from side to side

Where the land is shaken up and down caused by the first wave caused by an earthquake

Seismograph
a measuring instrument for detecting and measuring the intensity and direction and duration of movements of the ground (as an earthquake)
Vent
a fissure in the Earth's crust through which gas and molten material erupt
Magma Chamber
A cavity in the Earth's crust where molten material is stored
Crater
A bowl shaped opening at the top of a composite volcano
Tsunami
a seismic sea wave usually caused by an underwater earthquake
Kobe
a city affected by an earthquake in 1995 - an earthquake in a HIC
Haiti
Example of an earthquake in a LIC

Stops tectonic plates moving past one another
Stick Slip
two blocks of Earth get locked into place, then suddenly slip past each other and snap
