Constants
Factors that an experimenter controls to ensure consistency between experimental and control groups.
Hypothesis
A possible explanation for something you observe that is testable and based on the best available information.
Prediction
What the experimenter expects to happen in an experiment.
Experiment
A procedure designed to test a hypothesis.
Independent Variable
The one factor that the experimenter changes in an experiment.
Dependent Variable
The factor that is measured by the experimenter that may be affected by the independent variable.
Experimental Group
A group for which the independent variable is changed. This group is compared with the control group.
Control Group
A group for which the independent variable remains constant or is "left alone" in its' normal state.
Data
Quantitative or qualitative information collected by direct observation or experimentation.
Correlation
The relationship observed between the independent and dependent variables. Also the relationship between a model and the real world.
