Acolyte
Another name for server; a minister who helps the priest and deacon at the chair and at the altar
Alb
The holy robe of baptism that ministers wear at the liturgy
Altar
The holy table of the Lord
Ambo
The holy place where God's word is spoken
Ambry
The cabinet that holds the holy oils, usually near the front
Aspergillum
The metal stick or the branch from a bush that is used to sprinkle holy water
Boat
The container that holds the grains of incense before they are burned. The boat has a spoon that goes with it.
Chalice
The cup that holds the wine that becomes the Blood of Christ.
Ciborium
A vessel that holds the gift of bread that becomes the body of Christ
Cincture
A belt made of rope
Coffin
The long box that holds the body of a dead person
Corporal
A linen cloth that is put on the altar, over the altar cloth, under the gifts of bread and wine.
Cruet
A vessel that holds water or wine
Credence table
The small table that holds the cups and plates and napkins and book when they are not being used.
Finger towel/hand towel
A linen napkin used to dry the presider's hands
Flagon
A large vessel that holds the wine
Font
The large vessel or pool of hold water used in baptism
Genuflect
A sign of love for God that we show when we go down on one bended knee
Gifts table
The table that holds the bread and the wine before it is presented at the altar.
Holy Oils
The oils used for anointing the sick, for anointing those to be baptized and the special perfumed oil called chrism used for anointing people at their baptism. The bishop consecrates lots and lots of holy oils for all the churches in the diocese, and the churches receive their new oils on Holy Thursday.
Lavabo bowl
The bowl to use to wash the presider's hand. The word lavabo is Latin and it means "I wash"
Lectionary
The book of the scripture readings. Each reading is called a "lection" or "lesson"
Lector
A minister who reads the scripture
Monstrance
A large vessel used to show people the holy bread that is the body of Christ
New Roman Missal
The book of the prayers for Mass
Paten
A plate that holds the gift of bread that becomes the body of Christ
Pall
A large cloth draped over the coffin like an alb, to remind us that the person who has died is baptized
Purificator
A linen napkin used to wipe the cup that holds the blood of Christ
Pyx
A small vessel to hold the holy bread of the Eucharist when a minister carries it out of church to people who are sick.
Sacristan
A minister who takes care of all the things in the sacristy, and who helps prepare all the things needed for liturgy
Sacristy
The room in which all the things used in the liturgy are stored and cared for and prepared
Sanctuary
The space around the altar and ambo.
Server
A minster who helps the priest and deacon at the chair and at the altar. Another name for server is acolyte. Servers can be adults, teenagers or kids. The pope says that both boys and girls can be servers.
Stole
The long vestment worn around the neck by a priest
Tabernacle
The large vessel that holds the vessel of the holy bread of the Eucharist, the body of Christ
Thurible
The pot that holds the charcoal on which incense is burned. The thurible can be a metal pot on a chain, or it may be a glass or ceramic pot filled with sand or stones.
Thurifer
A minister who carries the incense pot
