William Howard Taft
A president that was in office from 1909-1913. He was chosen by Teddy Roosevelt to success him after he gave up running for a third term. He did not follow through with Roosevelt's conservation and tariff wants. Largest President ever!
A bill that was modified many times by congress that ended up increasing tariffs on all products. Taft said it was the best thing ever and signed it happily.
The fight between President Taft and the head of the forest service that was appointed by Roosevelt. Taft wanted to have his secretary Ballinger to let some of the national forest/park land to big business, and that made Pinchot squeal. Then, Taft got angry and fired Pinchot from his position. This was not what Teddy wanted.
1912 Republican Convention
A meeting where the Republicans were going to choose the candidate for their party when they chose Taft over Roosevelt. Teddy stormed out and was very upset with their decision.
Bull Moose Party
The party created by Roosevelt out of anger at the Republican party for not nominating him. It was named Bull Moose because nothing could stop him, even being out won from his betrayer.
Election of 1912
This was a presidential election that ended poorly for the Republicans and the Bull Moose party. The votes between the Republicans split both ways to Teddy and Taft leaving a vulnerability to the two candidates. The democrats ended up taking the victory because the votes were split. Almost all of the electoral votes went to the Democrats.
