The structure of the earth
First the earth was a giant sea of magma as it cooled the heavier material sank and the lighter material floated to the surface.
The three layers of the earth

What causes plates to move
Plates move because the hot core heats the mantle.this causes convection currents in the mantle . The magma moves upwards for the core down to the crust here it cools and sinks and the cycle starts together
Convection currents
There is a friction between the convection currents and the plates as a result the plate may pull away or collide

The worlds youngest fold mountains . Formed only about 30 - 35 million years ago .
They include the Andes , the Alps , Himalayas , Rockies
During this period of folding are called alpine fold mountains
