Theory of evolution

(biology) the sequence of events involved in the evolutionary development of a species or taxonomic group of organisms

Artifical selection
selection by humans for breeding of useful traits from natural variation among different organisms
inherited characteristic that increases an organisms chance of survival
Natural selection
process by which individuals that are better suited to their environment survive and reproduce most successfully; also called survival of the fittest
species dissappears from all or part of its range
the remains (or an impression) of a plant or animal that existed in a past geological age and that has been excavated from the soil
Fossil record
information about past life, including the structure of organisms, what they ate, what ate them, in what environment they lived, and the order in which they lived
