Multiple tubes, syringe method

Apply tourniquet,
Ask pt to make fist,
Select site, palpate with index finger,
Cleanse site,
Anchor vein,
Insert needle at 15°,
Release tourniquet as last tube is filling

Butterfly (winged infusion set)

Apply tourniquet to wrist,
10 to 15° angle,
Release tourniquet when blood is seen,
Keep tube and holder in downward position
