The basic building block of life. All living things are made from cells.
All cells have a plasma membrane. It is responsible for:
• Maintaining Homeostasis
• Controlling what enters/leaves a cell
• Maintaining cell shape
The outer layer beyond the cell membrane. It is responsible for protecting the cell and providing shape.
Stores genetic information (DNA) in chromosomes.
DNA = Blueprint for Proteins.
Genetic information, DNA is wound up into tight bundles called chromosomes.
The DNA in the nucleus then tells the Ribosome how to build the proteins.
The ER for short is where proteins move to once they are built. They finish assembly here and move to the Golgi apparatus.
The Golgi packages proteins into vacuoles which are almost like boxes.
Proteins are then used in the cell or shipped out.
The vacuoles then travel to the cell membrane where they can leave the cell.
The powerhouse of the cell. It is found in both plants and animals. However, not found in prokaryotes.
Makes energy from sunlight, water, and CO2. It is only found in plant cells.
These organelles break down waste inside of a cell.
This is a jelly like substance, which surrounds all organelles in a cell.
An organelle used for cell movement. Involving a long whip like tail.
