A loud, harsh, holosystolic murmur at the lower left sternal border

VSD is the most common pathologic murmur in childhood

Differentiated from a PDA because the murmur of a patent ductus arteriosus is continuous, and MACHINERY LIKE, not holosystolic and it is at the upper left sternal border
