1. In the study by Thigpen and Cleckley on multiple personality disorder, a variety of methods were used including a projective test.
Describe what a 'projective' test measures.
A 'projective' test gives the doctors information about a persons unconscious feelings. An example of this may be of fears or desires.
(b) Explain why a variety of methods were used to collect data in this study.
- A variety of methods were used to collect data in this study because this increases the validity. Results from a variety of tests, especially if they correlate, give an overview of validity.
2. Suggest one strength and one weakness of evidence gathered by Thigpen and Cleckley in their study of multiple personality.
One weakness of the evidence gathered is that it is difficult to generalize the results to the population (because of the small number of subjects). One strength is the amount of data collected-every detail was recorded.
