What do logical positivists attempt to do?
Use logic/empirical evidence to conclude knowledge of the world.
What do logical positivists argue?
That statements should be subjected to the verification principle in order to establish whether or not they're meaningful.
What are cognitive theories?
They argue that ethical language is meaningful because 'good' exists either as a fundamental property that can be tested/verified or known intuitively.
What are non-cognitive theories?
They challenge the cognitive view with the claim that ethical language is not verifiable, but an expression of opinion and value.
What is realism?
The idea that ethical concepts have intrinsic value in and of themselves, independent of the human mind.
What is anti-realism?
The idea that concepts have no value in and of themselves and that humans construct ethical meaning (they only have meaning because of human perception).
What dilemma does meta-ethics connect to?
The Euthyphro Dilemma.
What is The Euthyphro Dilemma?
Is something good because God commands it, or does God command it because it is morally right?
What is The Euthyphro Dilemma's link to Meta-ethics?
They have the same sort of idea and can be approached from either a cognitive or a non-cognitive point of the view.
