Periodic Table of Elements
Science Midterm January 7th grade
Terms in this set (13)
What are signs a chemical reaction has occurred?
Temperature change, color change, and gas formation
What is an element?
A type of matter that cannot be broken down into smaller substances
What is the Periodic Table of Elements?
An organized arrangement of all known elements
How is the Periodic Table of the Elements arranged?
By similar elements. The metals are all together, the metalloids re all together, and the nonmetals are all together. They are also arranged in groups and periods. They are also arranged by atomic number and atomic mass (least to greatest (left to right))
How do elements from the metal, nonmetal, and metalloid groups differ? How are they similar?
They differ because metals are good conductors of electricity, metalloids are sometimes good conductors of electricity, and nonmetals are insulators of electricity. Also metals are hard, malleable, and can't be a gas. Metalloids can be a solid, liquid, or gas. Nonmetals are soft, and can be a gas, liquid, or solid. Metals are shiny, nonmetals aren't. Metals are ductile and nonmetals are not. They are similar because they are all elements. Also they are all made of matter and atoms.
What are atoms? What components make up an atom?
Atoms are the smallest things in the universe. Atoms make up everything, including elements. The types of components that make up an atom are protons, neutrons, and elections.
What information about an element can be determined by using the Periodic Table of Elements?
Whether an element is a metal, nonmetal, or metalloid. Whether an element will react with certain chemicals.
Where are metals, nonmetals, and metalloids found on the Periodic Table of Elements?
Metals are found on the left side of the Periodic Table, nonmetals are fund on the right side of the Periodic table, and metalloids are found on a staircase in the middle, between metals and nonmetals on the Periodic Table.
What is the relationship between the amount of reactants and the amount of products in a chemical reaction?
How do the amounts of reactants affect the amounts of products produced?
How does the Law of Conservation of Matter relate to chemical reactions?
In a chemical reaction, what is the relationship among the reactants, the products, and the rate of reaction?
What an you learn about a chemical reaction from the chemical equation?
