Descriptions of Some of the Major Systems of the Human Body

Digestive System
breaks down and absorbs nutrients that are necessary for growth and maintenance
Respiratory System
provides gas exchange between the blood and the environment (oxygen comes in and carbon dioxide leaves)
Reproductive System
makes cells that allow for reproduction
Circulatory System
move nutrients, gasses (such as oxygen and CO2), and wastes through the body
Protection from Disease (Immune) System
destroys and removes pathogens from the body
Movement, control, and coordination (nervous) system
relays electrical signals through the body to allow for movement, control, and coordination
Skeletal System
holds all of the bones in the body and the tissues such as tendons, ligaments, and cartilage that connect them
