GIS Classification Methods

Determines data class breaks based on gaps in the data set.
Equal Interval
The user must specify the number of classes. This method calculates the data range divided by the number of classes.
Defined Interval
User Determined. The specified range is made equal in each class. The number of classes is revised according to the data range.
Geometric Progression
Varied data range that increases geometrically. Data range starts small and increases dramatically.
Standard Deviation
Calculates the average and standard deviation from the mean within specified ranges. Shows data values relative to the average data value.
Maps an equal number of unit areas in each class. Often resulting in a very large data range in the last class.
