Archimedes, who was born around 287 B.C. lived and worked his entire life in Sicily. Archimedes was the son of an astronomer and spent time wondering how things worked and inventing things. One of his most noteworthy inventions was a machine called the screw pump which used a screw to lift and move water from one location to another.
