Reversible reaction
-a chemical reaction in which the products reform the original reactants
-not all reactions reversible
At equilibrium......
the rate of the forward reaction is equal to the rate of the reverse reaction
What is the Equilibrium Expression?
K(eq)=[Products]ⁿ/[Reactants]ⁿ
-n = coefficients of equation
If K(eq) is < 1......
there are more products than reactants
If K(eq) is > 1......
there are more reactants than products
Le Chatelier's Principle
if a stress is applied to a system at equilibrium the system shifts in the direction that relieves the stress
