The "Y" rule
If a word ends with a "y" preceded by a consonant, then change the "y" to an "i" before every suffix EXCEPT when adding "ing"
Double the final consonant
when a word ends in a single consonant, preceded by a single vowel (CVC) double the final consonant to keep the vowel short
Do NOT double the final consonant
when adding a suffix beginning with a consonant
Drop the final silent "e"
when adding a suffix that begins with a vowel
Keep the final silent "e"
when adding a suffix that begins with a consonant
