Small Intestinal PJ Hamartomatous Polyp
small bowel, looks almost like normal mucosa, just disorganized
Colonic Hyperplastic polyp
no malignant potential
happens anywhere in the colon
serrated architecture of the glands, smooth out at bottom of the crypt
cross-section looks kind of like a star
Tubular Adenoma (TA)
looks like low grade dysplasia in ulcerative colitis
- stratification of nuclei
- bluer than normal
- darker than normal
- regular-shaped glands
- not complex back-to-back glands as seen in high-grade dysplasia
Carcinoma of Cecum
colonic adenocarcinoma right side cancer in cecum fecal flow could still go sometimes do not present until very late
left side rectosigmoid cancer stenosing
tend to cause symptoms, maybe even obstruction at an earlier stage
Moderately Differentiated Adenoma
- complex glands
- columnar cells
- debris in center
- fibrotic and pink dysplasic stroma good evidence for invasion
- light-coloured mucin
- islands of epithelium floating in the mucin
- in the colon mucinous adenocarcinoma has worst prognosis
If gallons of mucin are seen, look for appendix, that's probably where it's coming from
