Biotic
living - examples: plants or animals. producers, consumers, decomposers
Carnivores
animals that eat only other animals
Decomposers
they break dead material down into the most basic nutrients, examples: fungi, bacteria
Ecosystem
Everything living and non-living in an area
Herbivores
animals that eat only plants
Omnivores
animals that eat both plants and other animals, ex. humans, raccoons, ants
Plant
producer, makes its own "food" via photosynthesis
Organism
A living thing
Habitat
An area where an organism lives
Biome
A major biological community that occurs over a large area of land
Predator
An animal that hunts other animals for food
Prey
an animal that is hunted and killed by another for food
Competition
Interaction among organisms that fight for the same resource in an ecosystem
Parasitism
A relationship between two organisms of different species where one benefits and the other is harmed
Mutualism
A relationship between two species in which both species benefit
Parasite
An organism that feeds on a living host
Host
An organism on which a parasite lives.
