Mental Retardation

Onset before the age 18 years
Mild MR - IQ level 50-55 to approximately 70
Moderate MR - IQ level 35-40 to 50-55
Severe MR - IQ level 20-25 to 35-40
Profound MR IQ level 20 - 25

Mental Retardation, Severity Unspecified

The diagnosis of Mental Retardation, Severity Unspecified should be used when there is a strong presumption of MR but cannot successfully provide standarized intelligence test to the individual.

Reading Disorder

A. Reading achievement as measured by individually administered standarized tests of reading accuracy or comprehension, is substantually below that expected given the person's chronological age, measured intelligence, and age appropriate education.
B. The disturance in Criterion A significantly interferes with academic achievement or activities of daily living that requires reading skills.
C. If sensory deficit is present, the reading difficulties are in excess of those usually associated with it.
