Rock
It naturally occurring solid mixture of one or more minerals organic material
Rock cycle
The series of processes in which a rock forms changes from one type to another is destroyed in forms again by geological processes
Weathering
Process in which water wind ice and keep breakdown rock
Erosion
The process by which wind water ice or gravity transport soil and sediment from one location to another
Deposition
The process in which the materials lay down
Uplift
A movement within the earth that causes rocks inside here to be moved to the earth surface
Composition
The chemical make up of rock describes of the minerals or other materials in the rock
Texture
The quality of the rock that is based on sizes shapes positions of the rocks grains
Igneous rock
Forms one hot liquid rock or magma cools and solidifies
Felsick rocks
Light colored rocks that are rich in elements such as aluminum potassium silicon and sodium
Mafic rock
Dark colored rocks that are rich in calcium iron and magnesium and pour in silicon
Intrusive igneous rock
Rock formed when the cooling and solidification. Of magma beneath the earths surface
Extrusive igneous rock
Rock that forms as a result of volcanic activity at or near the earths surface
Sedimentary rock
Forms when natural cement binds rock and mineral fragments together
Sediment
Rock and mineral fragments that are formed through the process of erosion
Strata
Layers of rock
Clastic sedimentary rock
Forms when rock or mineral fragments called clasts are cemented together
Chemical sedimentary rock
Forms when minerals crystallize out of a solution to become rock
Organic sedimentary rock
Forms from the remains of once living plants and animals
Stratification
The process in which sedimentary rocks are you arranged in layers

Stratification
The process in which sedimentary rocks are you arranged in layers
Metamorphic rock
Rock in which the texture structure or composition of the rock have been changed
Contact metamorphism
Rocks undergo metamorphism by being heated by nearby magma which occurs near Igneous intrusion causing minerals to change into other minerals
Regional metamorphism
When pressure builds up in a rock that is very deep below other rock formations or one large piece of earths crust collide with each other causing the rod to become deformed or chemically changed
Foliated
Texture of a metamorphic rock in which the mineral grains are arranged in planes or bands
Nonfoliated
The texture of metamorphic rock in which the mineral grains are not arranged planes or bands commonly made of one of them if you minerals
Recrystallization
During this metamorphism process the crystals of these minerals may change in size or the mineral may change in composition
Deformation
A change in the shape of a rock caused by force placed on it causing it to be squeezed or stretched
