Narrator
Another word for speaker, the person or character telling the story
Participant
A character or main character. If the narrator is one of these, then they are an important character
Observer
A minor character, standing off to the side. If the narrator is one of these characters, the narrator is a character who doesn't do much in the story (just observes and tells the story from his/her standpoint)
Nonparticipant
A person who is not a character. If a narrator is one of these, he/she is not an actual character in the story at all
Omniscent
A narrator who is like this can see into the minds of all the characters (all-knowing)
editorial omniscience
A type of omniscience in which the narrator presents all the information, and adds his/her own comments/opinions throughout the story
impartial omniscience
A type of omniscience in which the narrator presents all the information, but does not comment or add his/her opinions
limited omniscience or selective omniscience
A type of omniscience in which the narrator can only see into the minds of one or two characters. (The author chooses which characters to tell about)
objective POV
A point of view in which the narrator does not tell the events from the mind of any character, but only tells what has happened (from an outside view)
innocent narrator or niave narrator
A narrator or character who fails to see any implications of the story in which they tell
unreliable narrator
The point of view of a person that the audience perceives as untruthful, delusional, or deceptive
stream of consciousness
A method of writing in which a character or narrator describes a procession of thoughts or feelings passing through the mind (all at once)
interior monologue
This specific method of writing is an extended presentation of a character's thoughts, in an arrangement as if the character was speaking out loud to himself for the audience to hear
total omniscience
A type of omniscience that has access to knowledge of the minds of all the characters
