Central Nervous System CNS
Brain and Spinal cord
Peripheral Nervous System PNS
Nerves outside the brain / spinal cord
AFFERENT..from BODY to BRAIN
EFFERENT..from BRAIN to BODY..MOTOR nerves..controls skeletal muscles..VOLUNTARY movement
3 devisions of the Peripheral nervous system
Sensory..Somatic and Autonomic
INVOLUNTARY..includes parasympathetic and sympatheic
REST and DIGEST..Digestion, urination, salivation Daily body upkeep and maintenance
FIGHT or FLIGHT..Alert system for stressful situation..Ex. airplane crach..being jumped
2 chemical neurotransmitters
ACh Acetacholine and NE norepinephrine
Parasympathetic AND sympathetic 1st synapse
Parasympathetic system 2nd synapse
sympathetic system 2nd synapse
adrenergic receptor(alpha or beta)
Muscarinic and Nicotinic
Alpha and Beta
SYMPATHETIC PRE AND POST GANGLIONIC SITES
PRE(Ach) POST(NE)..Pre receptors(NICOTINIC) Post receptors(ADRENERGIC>>ALPHA OR BETA)
Parasympathetic PRE AND POST GANGLIONIC SITES
Pre and Post(Ach)..Pre receptors(NICOTINIC) Post receptors(Muscarinic)
causes smooth muscle to dialate..will have an increase in HR because receptors not specfic, and HR is part of Beta 1
Increase HR and Dialation
Decrease HR and Constriction
Acts on AcH, mimics parasympathetic system, Decrease in HR, and Bronchoconstriction
Blocking para symp. receptors..Increase in HR Bronchodialation
Acts on NE..Heart rate up (B1), Bronchodialation (B2)
Blocks effect of symp. system..Lowers HR, causes bronchoconstriction
