Age requirement to get a Class C Instruction Permit
Class C Knowledge Test
35 multiple choice questions and 28 must be correct to pass. This test costs $5.
The Class C permit allows
the operation of the same vehicles that a Class C allows.
With a Class C instruction permit, you need a
licensed driver who is at least 21 years old and have at least 3 years of driving experience.
Class C instruction permits are valid for
A Class C license allows an 18 year old to drive
Any car or any single car (including mopeds, passenger cars, vans, and pickups), a recreational vehicle, and a fire or emergency vehicle.
A Class C license also allows you to tow
Any single vehicle and a travel trailer for personal use, and a trailer with a loaded weight of 10,000 pounds.
Age requirement for a Class C Provisional License
To apply for a Class C provisional license
Have had a permit from Oregon, another state, of the District of Columbia for at least 6 months.
Certify and have your parent or legal guardian certify that you have either:
-50 hours of supervised driving experience and have taken an ODOT-approved traffic safety education course.
-100 hours of supervised driving experience.
-Pass a Safe Driving Practices Test.
-Pass a behind-the-wheel test.
Supervised Driving Experience
supervised by an adult at least 21, who has had their license for at least 3 years, while you drive.
Restrictions on a Class C provisional license
For the first six months, you cannot drive with passengers under the age of 20 who are not in your immediate family AND you cannot drive between midnight and 5 a.m. unless for a reason in the exceptions list.
For the second six months, you cannot drive with more than 3 passengers under the age of 20 who are not in your immediate family AND you cannot drive between midnight and 5 a.m. unless for a reason in the exceptions list.
Exceptions to driving between midnight and 5 a.m. for the first year
- Driving between home and work
-Driving between home and a school event for which no other transportation is available
-Driving for employment purposes
-When accompanied by a licensed driver who is at least 25 years of age.
These driving restrictions apply for one year or until the age of 18, whichever comes first.
Non-driver ID card to residents who do hot have a valid license or permit and who need some form of photo identification. You cannot have both a license or permit AND a ID card.
How to apply for an ID card
-Complete the application.
-Present proof of legal presence, full legal name, identity, and date of birth.
-Provide your Social Security Number on the application for verification with the Social Security Administration.
-Present proof of your current residence address.
-Successfully complete required knowledge, drive, and vision tests.
-Pay applicable fees.
-If you are under the age of 18, comply with provisional licensing requirements.
