What was the attack of Pearl Harbour?
The attack of pearl harbour occurred on the 7th of December 1941. Japan had launched a surprise attack against a military base at Pearl Harbour in America. This attack caused many deaths and after decades of conflict between the two countries, the USA had finally declared war.
How did USA come into WWII?
The USA remained neutral for most of the war, however pearl harbour woke up this 'sleeping giant' and caused them to declare war on Japan and join the allied forces.
USA came into WW2 after Japan's attack on Pearl harbour. They declared war due to Japan's rising power and taking control of most of the pacific countries.
Why were Japan and USA rivals?
Japan and USA were rivals as they had been competing for political and economical influence throughout the pacific.
In 1931, Japan invaded Manchuria and this enraged America as Japan was gaining more territory and power.
In 1937 Japan fully invaded China and this caused tensions between the two tensions because the USA also wanted influence in China.
Japan had also made a treaty with Germany in 1940 and became apart of the axis powers.
To prevent them from rising to power, the USA cut of their oil supply as Japan was heavily dependant on them for it.
Why did Japan attack the USA?
Japan wanted to take over the pacific and wanted to cripple America's military strength in the pacific. They wanted to attack America so that they wouldn't get in their way of their expansion in Malaya and the rest of the pacific. Japan was wanting to increase its oil for its war effort and saw the Pacific Fleet of the United States as its biggest threat.
