o Current educational preparation includes:
o BSN or higher with content in community nursing
o Experience as a RN, knowledge of health care
o assets of a community & of spiritual practices of a given faith community
Educational Preparation: Cont.
o Extensive continuing education contact hours
o Designated coursework in faith community nurse preparation at the baccalaureate or graduate level
o International Parish Nurse Resource Center (IPNRC) curriculum, which embraces 4 major concepts:
o Spiritual dimension, professionalism, wholistic health, and community
o A thorough grasp of the Scope and Standards of the practice
Activities/Functions of the Faith Community Nurse:
o Personal health counseling
o Health education
o Referral or liaison activities
o Facilitating groups
o Coordinating volunteer services/Integrating faith and health
o Health advocacy
Issues in Faith Community Nursing Practice: Professional
• Ability to work with lay volunteers and toher professionals (clergy, etc)

• Same as with any other area of nursing

• Has to report abuse/neglect, illegal activities same as any other nurse
