What are the four firearms safety rules?
1-treat every weapon as if it were loaded
2-never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot
3-keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire
4-keep your weapon on safe until you intend to fire
What is immediate action?
Action taken to immediately return a gun to service without stopping to find the cause of a malfunction.
What is remedial action?
Action taken to return a gun to service if immediate action fails. May involve determination of cause of malfunction and possible replacement of parts.
What does an audible pop/reduced recoil signify?
Only a portion of the propellant has been ignited. Normally identifiable by a lower report and reduced recoil. This is sometimes accompanied by excessive smoke escaping from the chamber area (can cause a squib round)
What do you do if you experience an audible pop/reduced recoil?
General rule is to wait 10sec. to ensure a hang-fire situation is not present. Verify barrel is not obstructed by a squib round by visually and or physically ensuring barrel is clear. !! always keep muzzle pointed downrange!!!

What are the steps in a safety function check of the M203(w/out dummy rnds)?
1- Verify weapon is clear and safe
2- Cock grenade launcher & squeeze the trigger. Firing pin should release.
3- Hold trigger to the rear & cock grenade launcher. Release trigger & then squeeze trigger. Firing pin should release.
4- Check safety in both safe & fire positions with trigger. Launcher must be cocked before safety can be placed in safe position.
5- Move barrel forward & back to be sure barrel stop & barrel latch function.

5-Squeeze trigger; trigger should not move & hammer should not release
6-Position safety to fire;squeeze trigger & hold to the rear;hammer should release, slide fore-end assembly smartly to the rear & then forward, hammer should not release
7-While keeping trigger depressed & without depressing action bar, try cycling weapon. Weapon should not cycle
8-Slowly release trigger; there should be an audible click when the sear resets, hammer should not release
9-Place weapon on safe. Function check complete

What are the procedures for a safety function check on an M240N?

4-Place weapon on FIRE
5-Squeeze trigger, bolt should go forward
6-Attempt to place weapon on SAFE (it should NOT go)
7-While squeezing & holding the trigger, pull cocking handle to the rear & release (3 times) ensuring bolt does not lock to the rear
8-Function check complete
