On 24 July 2010, a crowed rushed from both ends into a tunnel at the love parade causing the death of 21 people, with at least 500 others injured. Every three years is an agricultural exhibition (Landwirtschaftliches Hauptfest) is included in the main celebration. This was the original Cannstatter Wasen Volksfest. Unlike the Volksfest, there is an entrance fee to visit the exhibition. The last exhibition of this kind was in 2009.

You can see many fireworks go off at midnight. Restaurants stay open until late in the night and offer 5 course meals. In cafes they have New Year's breakfast. The celebration continues late into the night. People may give each other gifts of four-leafed clover, chimney sweepers and marzipan piglets as a symbol of good luck for the New Year.
Fire is the symbol of renewal and hope. With a big bang people start into the New Year. Often people make New Years resolutions during a New Year's Party.
Silvester is new years eve, which is the 31st of December every year.
It's usaully celebrated by watching fireworks, going to the opera, having a formal diner and the following day have breakfast with friends and family.
When celebrated in Berlin, there is a show at the Bradenberg gate where several stages, dance floors and tents with live music will be present. There is performancesm, international DJ's, Laser and light shows with international food stands and bars that will be there to snack. Also at midnight there will be a countdown and great fire work displays which are FREE!
