climate
The pattern of weather of a certain place over many years.
temperature
A measurement of how hot or cold the air is.
precipitation
The moisture that falls to the ground. It may be in the form of rain, snow, sleet, hail.
environment
The surroundings in which people, plants, and animals live.
natural resources
A material found in nature that people use.
renewable
A natural resource that can be replaced or renewed.
nonrenewable
A natural resource that has a limited supply and cannot be replaced

A nonrenewable resource. A natural substance found in the earth that does not come from plants or animals.

A substance or source the makes heat or energy.

Anything that dirties the air, soil, or water.

People pick representatives to run the government.
citizens
A person who was born in a country or has earned the right to become a member of that country.
taxes
A money people pay to the government.

Congress
It is the legislative branch. It creates laws for the whole country.

The person who is head of the executive branch of government. Elected every 4 years.
United States Supreme Court
The highest court in our country. The third branch of our government. It makes sure that our laws follow the Constitution.

The way a country uses resources.

People who provide goods and services.

People are free to start and run their own businesses.
entrepreneurs
A person who starts and runs his or her own business.

The money earned after paying salaries, tools, and other costs.
investors
A person or group who puts money into a business.
consumers
The people who buy goods or use services.
opportunity cost
The thing that is not chosen when people make a choice between two things they want.
scarcity
When there is a shortage of a product.
regions
An area with common features that set it apart from other areas.
interdependent
People in one region depend on those in other regions to help meet their needs.
Transportation
Moving goods or people from one place to another.
