What are the four classes of information in cognitive hierarchy?
Must be processed and organized prior to becoming meaningful to the end user
What must you do to data for it to become meaningful to the end user?
Describe how data is structured by using a prescribed syntax (rules of
arrangement) and to associate the data with semantics (meaning)
How is metadata used?
The act of learning of integrating from various pieces of information
What is cognition?
To ensure the process of transforming data into information used for
decision making is traceable, auditable, and demonstrably proven, making it
authoritative (trustable)
What is the objective of transparency?
Core data & aggregations services

They are organized with the capability to request or query only the information
necessary to fulfill a requirement
How are data structures organized?
Structured description of records
What is a schema?
How data resides in a database
What are physical data structures concerned with?
Linked lists use pointers to identify the order of items; sequential lists use the
natural order of items
Explain the difference between using linked and sequential lists.
To view stored data in the database
What do logical data structures allow users to do?
A database table is a set of data elements (values) that is organized using a model
of horizontal rows and vertical columns. Views are also relational tables, but their data is
calculated at query time
How do tables and views differ?
Node connected directly above it
Parent Node
Located at the bottom end of a node branch
Child Node
A special type of parent Node, at the top of the hierarchical tree
Root Node
The relationship from child-to-parent and the relationship from parent-to-child can
be one too many
What is special about having a network data structure?
Local security officials must certify appropriate actions have been taken to ensure
the security of the system will not be degraded by the addition of the new software
programs
What must you ensure before installing any software product on an operational Air Force
computer?
Should detect and respond to unauthorized attempts to change circumvent, or
other wise violate security features. The system should also abort/suspend the
unauthorized activity and record the incident in the audit log
What security features should security software implement?
Restrict software maintenance personnel with the appropriate security clearances
What restriction applies to maintenance activities?
The best method to determine if the security features on your database system
are working is to periodically perform a security audit
Why should you perform a security audit trail?
Use of identification and authentication / User actions to create, modify, or delete
programs/files / Actions taken by computer operators, system administrators, and
system security administrators / Any even change that that attempts to change the
security profile of the system (for instance, change access controls, Change the security
level of the subject, change user password, and so on) / Any events that attempt to
violate the security policy of the systems (for instance, too may attempts to log in,
attempt to violate the access control limits of a device, and attempts to downgrade a file)
What events are auditable?
Type of event / Date and time of the event / Unique identifier of the user or device
generating the event / Success or failure of the event / Origin (terminal ID) of the request
for identification and authentication events / Name of program/file introduced, accessed,
or deleted
What information should be recorded during the audit?
One method of providing protection of critical data against tampering is to control
the physical access to the AIS itself by installing keyboard locks or other security
mechanisms on the computer. Another method is to establish procedures preventing the
removal or duplication of critical data from secured storage files from unattended AIS
How can you protect critical data against tampering?
Back up critical software files and store them at a different location fro the
immediate work area of which they are used
List one important guideline for enhancing data security.
Control access to files, segments software, and devices so only authorized users,
based on need to know, can use the system and data resources. Limit access to
privileged programs, utilities, and data files to system management personnel. Limit the
capability to conduct privileged actions to system management personnel
What access controls can you apply to a database?

What is the main purpose of database?
Is the process of organizing data into tables in such a way that the results of
using the database are unambiguous as intended
Define Normalization.
Each attribute of the entity occurs only once and there are
no repeating groups of data
First Normal Form
An entity is in first normal form and each attribute is

entity is dependent on another non-key attribute
