species
a group of individuals that are genetically related and can reproduce (e.g. Homo sapiens = humans)
population
a group of organisms belonging to the same species that live in the same area and interact
with one another
community
all of the populations of different species that live in the same area and interact with one
another
ecosystem
includes all of the abiotic and biotic factors in an area
abiotic factors
parts of the environment that are not living (e.g. sunlight, climate, soil, water, air)
biotic factors
parts of the environment that are alive, or were alive and then died (e.g. plants, animals, fossil remains, bacteria, fungi, protists)
ecology
the study of how living organisms interact with each other and their environment
biome
a large community of plants and animals that live in the same place
biosphere
part of the planet with living organisms
