What is a "Ten Minute Hit"?
When an agency receives a positive response (hit) from NCIC and an individual is within the geographical area of extradition and is being detained, or a piece of property is being seized, a confirmation with the agency that originated the record in NCIC is necessary to ensure the validity of the hit before an arrest or seizure is made. Therefore - if your agency gets an NCIC "hit" on a person who is wanted by the Las Vegas PD, you must send a YQ request to Las Vegas to determine if they will extradite from Utah. (NOTE: If it is a "no extradition" warrant, and the agency will not extradite from other states, DO NOT send a YQ request.) Las Vegas PD must now respond to your request within a certain time frame to let you know if they plan on extraditing.
