algorithm
a step-by-step procedure for solving problems
sequence
the order in which tasks are to be carried out
operand
the data that the operator manipulates
iteration
when a task is repeated until there is a required outcome
selection
a question is asked and depending on the answer, the program takes one of two courses of action
flow diagram
a visual representation of an algorithm using symbols connected by arrows
decision
when a question is asked (as in selection) the answer will lead to one or more different alternative actions
process
action that is taken, sometimes as a result of a decision, in order to achieve a desired outcome
relational operator
examples include +, -, *, /, %, //
variable
a container which is used to store values such as the number of attempts
pseudocode
a language that is similar to real programming language, but is easier for humans to understand although it doesn't actually run on a computer. It can easily be converted to a regular programming language
boolean operator
a symbol that tells the computer to perform a specific action on data and manipulate it in a certain way examples include AND OR NOT
