Any person, organization, or company that may be interested in your products or services. May be associated with one or more campaigns. Can be converted into accounts, contacts, and opportunities.
Opportunity
A potential revenue-generating event. May be associated with accounts and contacts.
Account
Customers, competitors, and partners. May have related contacts, opportunities, and cases.
Forecast
The best estimate of the revenue you can generate in a quarter.
Contact
Any individual or influencer associated with an account. May have related cases.
Case
A detailed description of a customer's problems, questions, and feedback. Usually associated with accounts and contacts.
Solution
A detailed description of a customer issue and its resolution. Associated with cases.
Dashboard
A visual representation of key business information. Displays data from custom source reports. Is comprised of up to 20 components. Can use Visualforce pages to present data from other sources. Can be scheduled to be refreshed and emailed automatically. Has a running user to determine what data is visible. Is visible to all users, if enhanced folder sharing is turned on.
Activity
A task or a scheduled calendar event.
Product
An individual item that is sold on an opportunity.
Report
A summary and analysis of Salesforce data.
Contract
A written agreement between two or more parties.
Chatter
A collaboration tool that helps you connect with other users in your organization.
Org
A deployment of Salesforce that has a defined set of licensed users.
Object
A table of data containing records.
Campaign
Marketing projects that you plan, manage, and track within Salesforce. May have related leads and contacts, shown as campaign members, and opportunities.
Related List
List of child records.
Lookup
Reference to parent record. One to many relationship. Links two different objects or links an object to itself.
Tab
Object accessible by a user displayed on the tab bar, customized per app.

Setup Assistant
Helps you import data and customize your sales stages. Provides wizards and videos for targeted assistance.
Company Profile
A collection of information about your organization, mostly captured at contractual signup. This includes Company Information, Financial Information, and Support Information.
Locale Settings
Group of settings in the company profile used to determine the default display of data based on a company's geographical location. These can also be configured per user in the User record's locale settings.

User

Chatter External License
Users can see the groups they belong to and the profiles of members of those groups and share files common to groups they belong.

Mobile app for administrators. Users can freeze a user, deactivate a user, unlock a user, reset a user's password, view/edit a user's information, assign permission sets, view system status, switch between accounts in multiple organizations.
Security and Data Access: The Big Picture
The Organization (Login Access, IP Restrictions) -> Object (CRED Permissions) -> Record (Role Hierarchy, Sharing) -> Field
Permission Set
Allow administrators to grant permissions to specific users, but not to deny them.
Data Access Model: Public
Users can read and edit any record for which they have been assigned the corresponding object permissions on their profile. This is the default model in Salesforce.
Data Access Model: Private
Users can only access records that they own. Users cannot view records owned by other users in reports and search results.
Data Access Model: Hybrid
Combination of public and private access. Users can access records that they own and records of other users that are necessary for their job function.
Organization-Wide Sharing Defaults
Determine the baseline level of access users have to records they do not own and are used to restrict access to data. Private (record owners only), Public Read Only (all users can view, search, and report on records but only record owners can edit), Public Read/Write (view, edit, search, and report on records and add related records), Public Read/Write/Transfer (view, search, edit, and report on records and add related records, and transfer ownership or delete records).
Role Hierarchy
Users have the same level of access to records owned by or shared with users below them. Users in the same role or level cannot access each other's records.
Sharing Rule
Grant additional record access to defined groups of users on an object-by-object basis. Share which records? With which users? What level of access? Can be based on record ownership or field values in records.
Public Group
An administrator-defined grouping of users that you can use to simplify the creation of sharing rules involving many users. It can consist of individual users, roles, roles and subordinates, and other public groups.
Manager Group
Allows users to share records up or down their management chain. Users can share records through manual sharing, sharing rules, and apex managed sharing. This must be enabled in setup and cannot be added to other groups, do not include portal users, and contain only standard and chatter only users.
Account Team
Shares roles with the sales teams. Used for collaborative account management. Used for sharing and reporting purposes. When selecting a member, a role can be selected.
Opportunity Team
Supports collaborative selling and transparent reporting. Can be added by opportunity owners, their managers in the role hierarchy, and administrators. Allows opportunity owners to grant access to each team member they select. Allows users to select a default team for each opportunity they own.
Field-Level Security
Defines user ability to view and edit fields in Salesforce, helps enforce data security, helps ensure that users view only relevant data. This affects list views, search results, and reports.
Standard Field
Fields that are predefined in Salesforce, cannot be deleted, can be removed from a page layout, and can have limited customizations: changing labels, adding help text, adding/editing values in picklists, adding/editing lookup filters, setting field history tracking, changing the format of auto-number fields.
Custom Field
Fields that are created by a Salesforce administrator. Can create up to 25 long text area fields and set the default value. Data loss can occur if the data type is changed (list views, assignment and escalation rules) or if the field is deleted (field data is also deleted).
Picklist
Select values from a predefined list. Speeds up data entry, maintains data quality by allowing only permissible values, facilitates searching, reporting, and filtering. Can be controlling/dependent.
Formula Field
Can be used o build business-specific calculations. Read-only. Not visible on edit pages. Supported on standard and custom objects. Can reference standard, custom, or other fields of its type. Cannot reference encrypted description, or custom long text area fields.
Page Layout
Controls the display of detail and edit pages. Controls page section customizations. Allows you to set field properties. Can be unique for a specific business scenario. Can be assigned to a specific profile.
Record Type
Define different sets of picklist values for standard and custom picklists. Implement custom business processes by associating them to specific page layouts.
History Tracking
Track changes on up to 20 standard or custom fields per object. For each field, logs user making the change, date and time of change, old and new values.
System Data Validation
Custom fields can be marked as required and/or unique at the system level to force users to always enter a value or prevent records with duplicate values.
Custom Validation Rule
Specify business-specific criteria to prevent users saving invalid data in one or more fields. Contains two components: formula or expression for data evaluation and an error message.
Data Import Wizard
Provides a unified interface through which you can import data for accounts and contacts, leads, solutions, and custom objects. Standard users can import up to 500 account or contact records at a time.
Data Import Wizard Import File
.CSV file. Has values separated by comma. Appears differently in text document and spreadsheet. Prepare by checking data meets system and custom data validation requirements, resolving any duplicate records, removing blanks and empty spaces, running spell check, renaming column headers to match the field names in Salesforce, applying consistent standards for data formats. Imports < 50,000 records. Helps prevent duplicates. Choose whether or not to trigger workflow rules. Only some objects can be uploaded.
Force.com Data Loader
Application for the bulk import or export of data - can be used to insert, update, delete, or export Salesforce records or read, extract, and load data from CSV files. Uses an API that defines the rules for accessing Salesforce from external applications. Is a client application. Requires a security token to log in from an untrusted location. Imports < 5,000,000 records. Does not de-duplicate records. Always triggers workflow rules unless deactivated. All objects can be uploaded. Schedule imports. Saves field mappings for later use.
Data.com
Gives access to millions of contacts from Data.com Connect and company records from D&B, providing an easy way to find new customers and clean data. Premium and Corporate Prospector users can add new accounts, contacts, and leads to Salesforce and compare Salesforce records to Data.com's. Data.com Clean offers automated cleaning of records in Salesforce and is purchased for every Salesforce user.
Data.com Duplicate Management
Helps maintain clean and accurate data. Can control whether and when users can create duplicate records and customize the logic used to identify duplicates.
Mass Transfer Records
Used to transfer records in bulk with an option to transfer related records as well.
Deactivating a User
User records cannot be deleted from Salesforce, but users can be deactivated. The freeze button disables the user from logging in.
Backup Options
Reports (export specific data to Excel, manual process), Data Loader (export specific data to CSV, Excel, or another database, manual or automated process), or Weekly Data Export Service (obtain a complete set of Salesforce data for archiving, automated process)
Mass Delete Records
Delete standard object records that meet specific criteria.
Recycle Bin
Stores deleted records for a maximum of 15 days. "My Recycle Bin" is available to all users. "All Recycle Bin" is available only to users with the "Modify All Data" permission.
Report
List or summary that allows you to aggregate and analyze your data in different ways.
Standard Report
Built in. Stored in standard folders. Can be customized. Saved as custom reports since they can't be overwritten.
Custom Report
Can be built from scratch. Can be created by customizing standard reports. Must be saved in a custom, personal, or unfiled folder.
Report and Dashboard Folder Sharing
Traditional Model: Access can be Read Only or Read/Write. Folders can be accessible to all users, hidden from all users, or shared using public groups or roles. Access to folders does not roll up in the role hierarchy. Enhanced Model: Gives users finer control over how they share their reports and dashboards. Different groups of users can be given different access to the same folder.
Report Options
Always available at the top of every report. Options depend on the type of data being reported on. Make changes in a few clicks, then save as a new report.
Report Format: Tabular Report
A simple list of records. Used for mailing lists and activity reports.
Report Format: Summary Report
Records sorted into groups with subtotals. Floating report headers: Freeze the headers at the top or left of a report.
Report Format: Matrix Report
Summarizes data in a grid against horizontal and vertical criteria. Provides totals for both rows and columns. Grouping by Date Fields.
Report Filters and Filter Logic
Add up to 20 filters to a report directly in the Filters pane using the Add button or by dragging in fields from the Preview pane. In addition, use filter logic to link multiple filters using AND, OR, and NOT operators to create sophisticated conditions and offset priority conditions using parentheses and nested parentheses.
Report Custom Summary Formula
Can be displayed on summary and matrix reports. Up to five per report. Cannot reference other summary formulas. Can reference formula fields in the data. Only display on summary rows, not detail (record) rows.
Chart Type: Bar Chart
Each bar represents data from a grouping. Use horizontal to compare many groups. Use vertical to compare fewer groups or when grouping by a date field.
Chart Type: Line Chart
Each point represents data from a grouping. Use when grouping by a date field. Great for displaying changes over time.
Chart Type: Pie/Donut Chart
Each wedge represents data from a grouping. Size of wedge is determined by summary field. Use to compare shares of the grand total. Use a donut chart to display the grand total.
Chart Type: Funnel Chart
Each segment represents data from a grouping. The size of segments is determined by the summary field of each grouping. Use funnel charts to compare the summarized values of groupings.
Chart Type: Scatter Chart
Plot two summary fields against each other. Visualize the correlation between values in a group. Enable the report builder upgrade to use scatter charts.
Chart Type: Side-by-Side Bar
Use this type of chart for multiple groupings. Each source is represented by a set of bars.
Chart Type: Stacked Bar
Use this bar graph to display the proportions between values. It displays a single bar for each primary value, with secondary values shown on the same bar.
Chart Type: Stacked to 100% Bar
Use this for proportions between values in each grouping. All bars are the same length.
Chart Type: Grouped Line
Each bar represents an ordered set of data. Missing values are displayed as gaps.
Dashboard Component: Table
Displays data in column form. Displays grouping or summary fields of the report. Can display more than two columns.
Dashboard Component: Chart
Displays data graphically. Is based on the report data. Shows the field that the report is summarized on.
Dashboard Component: Gauge
Displays a single data value drawn from the grand total of a report. Helps show progress towards a goal. Can be followed to get notification when a breakpoint is reached.
Dashboard Component: Metric
Displays a single data value drawn from the grand total of a report. Uses conditional highlighting.
Dynamic Dashboard
Data is displayed based on the security settings of the user viewing it. There is no need to create multiple dashboards for different users. Can optionally specify authorized users who can change the running user.
Dashboard Filter
Can have up to 3 each. Must be based on date, date/time, currency, picklist, lookup, or text fields. Users can view different subsets of data on the same dashboard, users can post Chatter snapshots of dashboard components. Scheduled or emailed filtered dashboards display unfiltered data. Users cannot add filters to dashboards with Visualforce or s-control components.
Bucket Field
Quickly categorize records on a report for grouping and filtering.
Cross Filter
Create WITH or WITHOUT filters based on child records.
Joined Report
Combine multiple views of data in a single report.
Scatter Chart
Display one or two groups of data plus summaries.
Email Administration
Create organization-wide email addresses. Set up BCC email for compliance reasons. Enable email to Salesforce that automatically logs email sent from third-party email accounts as activities on lead and contact records. Stop end users from downloading harmful attachments. Set up default footers for both individual and mass emails.

A workflow tool that allows you to automate business processes using a visual interface.

Workflow Rules
Sets workflow actions into motion when certain conditions are met. Actions can take place immediately or on a specific date according to a trigger. Automates workflows based on an organization's requirements. Evaluation Criteria -> Rule Criteria -> Actions (Tasks, Email Alerts, Field Updates, Outbound Messages) -> Time Triggers -> Actions. Rules created after saving records do not trigger for those records retroactively. Workflow actions can trigger immediately once a record is saved or they can be time delayed.
Workflow Action: Workflow Tasks
Can be assigned to a user, role, record owner, record creator, opportunity team role, or account team role. Are associated with workflow rules for the same type of record. Shouldn't be assigned to roles with multiple users. Can be assigned to multiple users by creating multiple tasks as outcomes of the rule. Are tracked in activity history and can be reported on.
Workflow Action: Email Alerts
Automatically send an email to one or more recipients. Send a template email to a user, role, record owner, record creator, opportunity team role, or account team role. Can be sent to any email address populated in a custom or standard field on the record. Auto-generated emails are not automatically added to the activities related list.
Workflow Action: Field Updates
Automatically change the value of a field. Can be created for standard or custom objects. Can be immediate or time-dependent. Depending on the type of field, can make the value blank or calculate a value based on a formula. Can retrigger workflow rules.
Workflow Action: Workflow Outbound Messages
Send specific information to a designated endpoint. Send the data in the form of an API/SOAP message. Can be created for standard or custom objects.
