A tool used to organize the elements by atomic number.
The amount of protons in the nucleus of an atom.
An average sum of the number of the protons and the number of neutrons in the nucleus of the atom.
Shows the atoms of the elements composing the substance. They are written with one, two, or three letters. The first letter is always capitalized & each element has a different symbol.
Or groups. The vertical columns of elements on the periodic table; usually numbered 1-18 & each family has similar properties.

Have about the same mass as a proton; there is NO charge - it is neutral
Have a negative charge
Located in the center of the atom with electrons moving in random patterns in the space around the nucleus. Contains the protons and the neutrons
