Be sure to convert units of measurement so that they're consistent. If a question asks how many 3-x-6-inch bricks it will take to cover a 6-x-6-foot patio, be sure to recognize that inches and feet are two different measurements and perform the necessary conversions.
1 ft. = 12 in
1 yd = 3 ft
1 mi = 5280 ft
1 lb = 16 oz
1 ton = 2000 lbs
1 gal = 4 quarts
1 qt = 2 pts
1 pt = 4 cups
The distance around a figure. Find the sum of all of the sides.
Area of a rectangle (l=length, w=width)
a = lw
where c equals the length of a right triangle's hypotenuse, and a and b equal the lengths of the remaining two legs of the right triangle
Volume of a cube: v = s3, where s = the length of one side of the cube
Volume of a rectangular box: v = lwh, where l = the length, w = the width, and h = the height of the box
Volume of a cylinder: v = Πr2h, where r = the radius of the cylinder and h = the height of the cylinder
Surface area of a cube: SA = 6s2
Surface area of a rectangular box: SA =2lw + 2wh + 2lh
Order of Operations
The order in which operations in an expression to be evaluated are carried out. 1. Parentheses 2. Exponents 3. Multiplication and Divison 4. Addition and Subtraction.
Area of a triangle (b=base, h=height)
a =1/2 (b*h)
Radius: The distance from the center of a circle to any point on its perimeter.
Diameter: Twice the radius. The distance straight from one point on the perimeter, passing through the center, meeting the perimeter on the other side.
Circumference: the distance around the circle
Area; the space inside the circle
Remember: π = 3.14
To add or subtract, find a common denominator
Patterns & Sequences
A mathematical method of writing numbers using powers of ten.
The average of a list of values
To multiple, multiply straight across
Angle sum of triangle
the sum of all three angles in any triangle will equal 180 degrees
Angle sum of quadrilateral
the sum of all four interior angles of any quadrilateral will equal 360 degrees
