Equipment and Supplies
Restorative kit: Mouth mirror, explorer, cotton pliers, air/water syringe, spoon excavator, scissors, hemostats, spatula, other instruments required by dentist. Local anesthetic setup, Gingival retraction setup, Provisional coverage setup, Impression and bit registration setup including impression trays, High-speed and contra-angle handpieces and burs, shade guide, HVE and saliva ejector, Cotton products, articulating paper and holder, dental floss
Step 1
Assist in administration of local anesthetic

If an alginate impression is needed for use in making the provisional or for the opposer.
Step 3
If a stent for making the provisional is needed, take it at this time. A stent is a small impression of the tooth prior to preparation that is usually made with an alginate impression, bite registration, or a small thermoplastic disc. It's used to make the temporary crown after preparation.
Step 4
If the final impression requires a two-stage silicone impression, take the first stage impression at this time.
Step 5
If the final restoration is tooth colored, take the shade at this time.
Step 6
Maintain a clear operating field with the use of the HVE to retract the lips and tongue and to remove water and debris.
Step 7
The dentist uses diamond burs to quickly cut away decayed or fractured portions of the tooth. Other shaped burs define the appropriate shape of the preparation.
Step 8
The dentist or dental assistant places the gingival retraction cords.
Step 9
Ready the final impression materials.
Step 10
Rinse and dry the preparation.
Step 11
Transfer the cotton pliers to the dentist for cord removal.
Step 12
Assist the dentist or the assistant in placement of the light-body impression material.
Step 13
Fill the impression tray with have-body impression material.
Step 14
Receive the light-body delivery system from the dentist while delivering to the dentist the impression tray in correct alignment for the dentist to grasp the insert directly onto the prepared area in the patient's mouth.
Step 15
Watch the clock for the appropriate setting time according to the recommendations of the impression material's manufacturer.
Step 16
The dentist or the dental assistant can remove the impression tray.
Step 17
Rinse the patient's mouth.
Step 18
Take the bite registration.
Step 19
Remove any remaining gingival retraction cords.
Step 20
Fabricate the provisional restoration and cement with temporary cement.
Step 21
Give the patient provisional restoration care instructions.
Step 22
Schedule the patient for the permanent cementation appointment.
Step 23
After the dentist writes the laboratory prescription, prepare the case for delivery to the laboratory technician.
