The Functional (experimental) analysis
the only method that allows practitioners to confirm hypothesis regarding functional relations
functional analysis
Where antecedents and consequences representing those in the person's natural environment are arranged so that their separate effects on problem behavior can be observed and measured.
4 conditions: 3 test conditions, Contingent attention, Contingent escape and alone, Control condition
functional analysis often referred to
Analog (because antecedents and consequences similar to those occurring in natural routines are presented in a systematic manner)
Descriptive FBA
encompasses direct observation of problem behavior and the antecedent and consequent events under naturally occurring conditions.
Indirect Functional Assessments
structured interviews, checklists, rating scales, or questionnaires. To obtain information from the persons who are familiar with the person exhibiting the problem behavior, to identify possible conditions or events in the natural environment that correlate with the problem behavior
contingency reversal
Exchanging the reinforcement contingencies for two topographically different responses.
functionally equivalent interventions
Serving the same function or purpose; different topographies of behavior produce the same consequences.
