Problem solving steps
Define the problem, decide on a goal, choose alternatives, try out the alternatives, evaluate the effectiveness of your approach, and repeat the process if the solution is not effective
Has a negative connotation in our society, in itself is not a maladaptive behavior. Some cultures teach and accept in a poseful way of meeting one's needs
When is manipulation considered maladaptive?
Feelings and needs of others are disregarded, other people are treated as objects to fulfill the needs of the manipulator
Initiates a relationship with someone
Passive aggressive manipulator
Focuses on the other person's weaknesses
Confides half-truths, rumors, gossip, and innuendo
Employee, domestic, property, and commercial
Directed toward supervisors or management
Issue is personal, but the violent act takes place in the workplace
Employee engages in activities such as stealing from employers. Violence may ensue
Directed against the employee or employer's property
Abuse of power. Not about sex or passion
Are assault-related injuries preventable?
