A word that describes a noun e.g. the WOODEN table or the RED balloon. They can also indicate degree e.g. the TALLEST girl was the SLOWEST. Adjectives are sometimes known as modifiers.
A word that decribes the action of a verb e.g. the cat jumped swiftly or the boy ate hungrily. The can be modifiers but also intensifiers e.g. the man became VERY ANGRY.
the names of specific people, places, times, occassions, events, publications e.g. London.
General objects or ideas e.g. table, window.
Qualities that only exist in our minds e.g. cleaverness, courage.
groups of people, or collections of things as a whole, e.g. Crowd, Flock, Regiment.
Aword that expresses action, state of being or processes.
Full (or lexical) verb
They have a clear statable meaning. These act as main verbs such as run, jump or go, look.
Modal Auxiliary verb
express a range of judgements about the likely hood of events. These function only as auxiliary verbs - will, shall, may, might.
Can function as either main verbs or auxiliary verbs. There are three of them: be, have and do.
