Modestus Perfuga 1
Terms in this set (3)
Modestus, having left out of the culina where he had eaten the most splendid meal, was slowly returning to the prison. When he was walking, he was thinking in this way,
"I have never tasted a better meal; I have never drank a better wine. However I am most worried. For the cook prepared for both me and Strythio that wonderful meal, but I ate alone. Now it is necessary for me to explain this story to Strythio. However fortune favors me, because Strythio is a man of great patience, and very little food.
When he approached the prison, he saw the door open.
"By Gods!" he shouted alarmed. "Strythio, surely not you have left the prison door open? I know nobody more careless than you."
Having entered the cell, he found all the doors of the cell open.
"Alas!" he said. "All the doors are open! The captives, having escaped out of the cells, all fled!"
Modestus thought this anxiously. Not knowing to where the captives had fled; he was not able to understand why Strythio was absent.
