Terms in this set (11)
Slope Form
Y2 - Y1
--------
X2 - X1
Slope-Intercept Form
Y = MX + B
Need slope
Need y-intercept
Point Slope Form
Y - Y1 = M (X - X1)
Need one coordinate/point on a graph
Need slope
Standard Form
AX + BY = C
Gives you your x and y intercepts
Can find two coordinates/points from this form
Two numbers make two coordinates, NOT one
Direct Variation Form
Y = KX
Passes through the origin: (0,0)
Has a constant rate of change/slope
Linear line
Undefined Slope
Vertical Line (x-equation)
Zero Slope
Horizontal Line (y-equation)
Positive Line
Goes through top right-hand corner on graph.
Negative Line
Goes through top left-hand corner on graph.
Parallel Lines
Equations have the same slope, but different y-intercepts. Ex: y = 5x + 10 AND y = 5x + 14
Perpendicular Lines
Equations have opposite reciprocal slopes. Form a 90 degree angle within the two lines. Y-intercepts can be the same or different, it doesn't matter. Ex: y = 5x AND y = -1/5x
