Earth's axis
An imaginary line going straight through the Earth from the north to the south pole. The Earth rotates on this imaginary line.
season
One of the four quarters the year is commonly divided into. (Fall, Summer, Winter, Spring)
tilt
The slant of an object.
dependent variable
The variable that depends on other factors to change. (For example your test score could depend on how much you participate in class.)
independent variable
The variable that causes the other variable change in the other variable you are measuring.
coordinate graph
A graph that uses an x-axis and a y-axis along with the points created by the two variables to visually show how the change in one variable affects the other variable.
x-axis
The horizontal line on a coordinate graph, it represents the independent variable.
y-axis
The vertical line on a coordinate graph, it represents the dependent variable.
orbit
To move completely around another object.
revolve
To move in an orbit around a center.
revolution
The completion of one orbit around a center. (The Earth completes one of these in one year.)
rotate
To turn about an axis or center, to spin.
rotation
The completion of one spin or turn around an axis. (The Earth completes one of these in one day.)
month
It is the amount of time it takes the moon to orbit the Earth, about 29 days.
year
The time it takes the Earth to orbit one complete time around the sun, about 365 days.
