General Adjective
Questions: What kind? Which one(s)?
-Example: I wore tennis shoes.
(What kind of shoes? tennis)
How many/much?
-Example: I have several friends.
(How many friends? several)
Age Adjective
Question: How old?
-Example: My new car is a Ford.
(How old is the car? new)
Color Adjective
Question: What color?
-Example: I like red peppers.
(What color peppers? red)
Comma Between Adjectives: AND Test
If you insert the word "and" between the adjectives and the sentence still sounds fluent, ADD a come to separate them.
-Example: I love hot pepperoni pizza.
I love hot and pepperoni pizza. (incorrect, not fluent)
-Example: The cold misty morning made the fire inviting.
The cold and misty morning made the fire inviting.
(Yes, add comma between cold, misty)
Comma Between Adjectives: Reverse Order Test
If you reverse the order of the adjectives and the sentence still sounds fluent, ADD a comma to separate them.
-Example: I love hot pepperoni pizza.
I love pepperoni hot pizza. (incorrect, not fluent)
-Example: The cold misty morning made the fire inviting.
The misty cold morning made the fire inviting.
(Yes, add comma between cold, misty)
Adjectives
>Words that modify or describe nouns.
>Add details and make the picture in the reader's mind more distinct.
>Usually placed before the noun, but also may follow the noun.
-Example: Julius will be hunting for buried treasure.
Combine Sentences with Compound Predicates
Can combine sentences by creating compound predicates. Coordinating conjunctions join the verbs.
-Example: During the ride to Yosemite Park, I read my book and pestered my younger brother.
