810-1849, French-Polish composer born in Warsaw, but was ultimate to settle in Paris. Known almost entirely for piano works in a vast array of genres, including the prelude, ballade, nocturne, mazurka, polonaise, waltz, and sonata. Reticent about public performance, made a living teaching and selling his compositions, and died young of tuberculosis.
